After completing the first unit for a hypothetical middle level Spanish classroom setting, I had to do a lot of thinking and preparation for what I would like to do for a hypothetical high school level Spanish classroom setting! At the high school, I strongly believe that the point of taking a Spanish course is to better yourself to be able to speak to someone else that speaks Spanish. At this age, I feel as though high school students want to do exciting activities that allow them to utilize their Spanish-speaking skills in a realistic setting. It doesn't necessarily mean that these students need to be preparing themselves to travel to a mainly Spanish-speaking country, but more on the lines of having an everyday conversation. With much thought, I felt as though a restaurant setting was the most ideal, so I went from there!
Because the high school students are more likely to benefit from class discussion and note taking, that became a main pattern in the formative assessment in this unit. I feel as though in my experience as a student in many Spanish courses that this is the most efficient way to memorize conjugations and vocabulary words. Similar to the previous unit, students will be working towards a final product at the end of each lesson plan. The comprised five final products will be utilized as resources to prepare for their last step in the unit. That last step in this unit, will be acting out the role of both a waitress/waiter and a customer in a restaurant setting that we would create in a hypothetical high school. The students will be able to put their knowledge of the multiple verbs and many vocabulary words into the setting of a restaurant. This will be something that the will be able to look forward to along the way. My goal was that this fun activity would hopefully be a motivator in completing the work leading up to the final day!
